10-Year P&L Report Modernization Using Power BI for a Food & Beverage Client
Overview
The goal was to create a reliable, scalable, and high-performing reporting solution that would address existing inefficiencies in the legacy Excel-based process.
Challenge
The original P&L report was built in Excel and relied on manually fetched source data. This approach had significant limitations:
- Inconsistent Calculations: Figures in the report often did not match the source systems, leading to reporting inaccuracies.
- Performance Issues: The Excel-based report took over 15 minutes to load, impacting usability and decision-making speed.
- Scalability Constraints: Managing and maintaining a decade of data in Excel became increasingly inefficient and error-prone.
Solution
- To address these issues, we redesigned the entire report in Power BI, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. Key improvements included:
- DAX Optimization: Refined complex DAX measures to improve calculation performance.
- Filter Streamlining: Removed redundant and unnecessary filters, simplifying the data model and improving speed.
- Power BI Dataflows: Implemented reusable dataflows for centralized data preparation and transformation.
- Incremental Refresh: Scheduled during off-office hours to load only new or changed data, significantly reducing refresh times.
Impacts
Better customer satisfaction, quick and efficient solution, minimum delay on the website, solution conveyed as per convenience in real time environment, also dashboards can be created for the same.
